  Did You Know?
When it comes to preparing family dinners, teens often lend a hand. In a survey conducted for the second annual National Eat Dinner Together Week (Sept. 28 - Oct. 4), they found that:
  • 72% of teens say they take part in meal preparation at least once a week
  • 36% shop for groceries
  • 31% prepare side dishes
  • 20% prepare the main dish
  • 17% prepare full meals
The size of your fist is a good guide to judge the portion sizes of the food you eat. So, just make a fist!

  The Advisory Council
The Teen Fitness Champion Advisory Council is made up of two students from each participating school. Teens that attended and participated in the first Focus Group last summer also serve on the Advisory Council. The Advisory Council will meet periodically to discuss ways we can keep the program interesting and fun. The Advisory Council will also participate in the review and judging of the Finish Line School Project. A February meeting is being planned.

Reporting
Being a Teen Fitness Champion means reporting weekly on your physical activity and eating habits. We want to know how many times you took a walk, jogged and participated in physical exercises. We also want to know what kinds of food you are eating. Every Friday we want you take a few minutes and let us know how you are doing. Beginning February 6, 2006, reporting this information will help you gain points to win prizes. Your first report is due Friday, February 17th. For each report that is submitted on time, through email or by calling, each Teen Fitness Champion can receive 10 points. Each journal that is submitted on time and fully completed will be worth 50 points. Journals should be returned to your TFC advisor. In the next newsletter you will hear more about how these points can earn you prizes. For those of you without access to the internet you may call the IMHC telephone number at 926-4011 and speak to the Receptionist who will enter the information for you. Your user name and a password are included with the newsletter. You MUST enter this information to access the report online.
To report follow these directions:

  1. Go to www.imhc.org/teenfitness/loginform.cfm and log on with your user name and password. Complete your report online.
  2. Call the IMHC telephone number at 926-4011 and speak to the Receptionist if you do not have internet access.
  3. Complete the enclosed journal and return it to your TFC advisor
