IMHC Public Policy & Engagement
The Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) is committed to advancing policies that improve the health and well-being of Indiana’s racial and ethnic communities. We believe that public policy is a powerful tool for reducing health disparities and achieving equitable access to care.
Our Approach
IMHC engages at the state and local levels to influence legislation, regulations, and initiatives that directly affect minority health. By combining research, community input, and policy analysis, we ensure that decision-makers have the evidence and stories needed to shape fair and effective health policies.
Policy Focus Areas
Our advocacy efforts are centered on:
-
Health Equity – Advancing legislation that eliminates barriers to quality healthcare for minority and underserved populations.
-
Maternal & Child Health – Supporting policies that reduce infant mortality, improve maternal care, and strengthen community-based services such as doulas and safe-sleep education.
-
Chronic Disease Prevention – Promoting statewide initiatives that address diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions disproportionately impacting minority communities.
-
Access to Care – Expanding coverage and resources for mental health, preventive services, and culturally competent care.

Our Impact
Through these efforts, IMHC serves as a trusted voice for Indiana’s minority communities in the policy arena. We advocate not only for better healthcare access, but also for systemic changes that address the social and economic conditions that drive health inequities. Our goal is to ensure that minority populations are not just included in policy conversations—but are prioritized.
