Public Policy

TONY GILLESPIE VP OF PUBLIC POLICY

IMHC’s public policy department works to drive forward advocacy activities to promote health equity. Our team engages local leaders, state organizations, public officials, and community members in an effort to improve health outcomes among racial and ethnic minorities in Indiana. We utilize a number of advocacy strategies to carry out our work, including media advocacy, lobbying, grassroots lobbying (encouraging the public, specifically our members and partners, to take action on specific legislation), and more.

As public health professionals, it is our professional and ethical responsibility to advocate for the underserved. We cannot assume that others are taking on advocacy initiatives that align with our goals. If we do not do it, people who support other positions will. In all our work, we promote racial justice by confronting the history of racial bias and discrimination embedded in public policy and healthcare systems/practices.
